The 5 R’s of SEO
You may start asking what are the 5 R’s of SEO and what do they mean? For starters the 5 R’s are not secret or complex. The 5 R’s is a straight forward tactic that can help you achieve the results you want for 2015.
Start with reviewing 2014 and looking at your website data for the year. Do see any room for improvement; can you see what pages might have underperformed in the past year? Was traffic flow as much as you wanted? If you need a good tool to help review your website data, Google Analytics and a Google Webmaster tools are good bets. If you already have those two tools great! Now it’s time to hit the rewind button, learn from it and apply for this year. Remember the biggest indicator of future success is understanding past performance.
The revisit step follows after you review your past performance. Now that you have a clear understanding of last year’s performance, the next step is to revisit information that directly affected performance.
Put your focus on the overall plan of your SEO objectives. Go back and look at your SEO strategy, did the idea you had in place at the beginning of last year work? Or do you need to make a few adjustments to the SEO strategy? Or maybe start a new SEO strategy with new goals.
Revisit your keywords from last year and determine if any keywords underperformed. Also check the content on the website; do you see any web pages that maybe had a high bounce rate or lack of traffic?
The last step is to revisit your directory listings. Do a quick Google Search on your business name, to find your directory listings. Identify if each listing has accurate business information and the contact information is consistent.
Now, we start getting into the planning process of the 5 R’s. Re-tool is a vital process of future success for your website. After reviewing and revisiting, it’s time to make your plan of attack. Outline the changes you want to make for 2015. If last year’s SEO strategy underperformed, now is the stage to re-tool the strategy to make it work this year. This stage is all about learning from your mistakes and providing a plan to take underperforming content from last year and turn it into a rock star content this year.
After you have re-tooled the SEO Strategy, make sure you re-tool your keywords too. In this phase think more long-tail and detailed keywords to help your content stand out and drive more traffic to your website. Having more precise keywords will help you generate good quality leads.
Now put everything into action from the previous steps. If you had to re-tool your SEO strategy and your keywords, now it’s time to have the website content reflect the new keywords and strategy. Make sure you revise any underperforming content.
Another step in revise is directories. Did you catch any errors in the directories on Google +, Yelp, Bing Local, and any other listing pages? If you have any issues with the directories, such as wrong contact information or inconsistencies in the street abbreviation, this step allows you to correct the mistakes.
The final R is all about rewarding your clients and rewarding yourself. When a client takes the time to write you a review make sure you take the time to thank them as well for it. It could a simple gesture of taking the time to say Thank you on their next visit, or sending a thank you card.
Lastly, reward yourself for taking the new steps to improve your website performance and traffic in 2015. This part of the process is about taking a step back and seeing how your efforts impact your website.
