Using Social Media for Feedback

As a local business, you should be listening to what people are saying about you, your business, and your services. Social media is a great tool for getting feedback about what you are doing right and what can be improved. Let’s take a look at how to cull feedback from social media.

Social Listening

Social listening allows your business to really hear what people are saying. There are several different ways to “listen” on social media, including: engagement tracking, social mentions, hashtags, and mention tracking tools.

Social Listening for Businesses

Engagement Tracking

Engagement tracking on social media is easy. When you log into your Facebook, review your “Activity” alerts. On Google+ and Twitter, view your “Notifications” to check out what type of engagement your pages are getting. Review what your followers are liking, sharing, +1ing, retweeting, or adding comments to on your page. What are followers engaging with? What does this engagement tell you about your products and services?

Notifications on Facebook

Additionally, comments, whether negative, constructive, or positive, will provide insight for your business. For example, when you run a Friday-only special, do followers respond with comments wishing it was on Saturday instead? This is feedback you can use for future promotions. After posting to Facebook, Google+, and YouTube, always keep an eye on the comments.

Check Out Social Mentions

How can you see who is talking about your business even when they aren’t engaging with your posts? Social mentions. On Facebook, Google+, and Twitter, anytime a user tags you or your business in a post using the “@” symbol, you can see the post. Always respond or engage with any social mentions (even if it means you simply like or +1 the post).

Search Hashtags

#Hashtags are a great way to get feedback on your business and services. To use the search function on each social network, type in #YourBusinessName or a #keyword into the search bar at the top of the page. Even general feedback that isn’t about your company but is about the same type of services you offer can be helpful.

Free Tools to Use

Use free tools for social listening. These tools save you time since they either give you an immediate alert or allow you to perform a quick and through search. Useful tools include Google Alerts, Facebook Insights, TweetDeck, Social Mention, and Topsy.
